I helped found Bike Walk Wichita in 2010. We've expanded greatly this year, both in our Education efforts (11 new LCI's, multiple classes offered each month) and in our ReCycle program, where we accept donated bikes and refurbish them to be donated / earned by people who need a bike for transportation.
I am a substitute teacher for the public schools in Wichita, mainly in the elementary and middle levels. I ride my bike for transportation as well as sport, riding most every day to work; I also love riding the back roads, gravel and dirt, in our area; plus road rides, usually in a group.
Bike Walk Wichita has these key ideas: Vision Wichita will value bicyclists, runners, and walkers and create safer places for both recreation and active transportation.
Mission Bike Walk Wichita will promote active transportation through advocacy, public education, and collaboration.
History Bike Walk Wichita (formerly The Bike Walk Alliance-Wichita) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to the promotion of safe active transportation within Wichita and South Central Kansas. Bike Walk Wichita was created in 2010 in response to the growing need for consolidating advocacy and education efforts for biking, running, and walking related concerns. With the intent of sharing ideas and collaborating efforts by many other bicycle/pedestrian organizations and causes, Bike Walk Wichita creates synergy among our local people-powered movement.
