History

Rick and Tanya McFerrin founded TWV in 2000 after a two-year bicycle expedition around the world. Their experiences and perspectives on the world, as seen from the seat of a bike, created the basis for TWV.

TWV provides the opportunity for youth to learn about the environmental and community resources at home and abroad and to experience the rich diversity of our global community. The bicycle becomes a potent tool for delivering our future leaders to locations where social, cultural, and environmental differences may become fascinating contrasts, and at the same time allowing youth to participate on a personal level with peers and communities perhaps surprisingly similar to their own back home.

TWV believes that all youth should have the opportunity to expand their physical and cultural boundaries. There are many youth that are never exposed to what may provide the greatest source of learning - real life experiences that bring home valuable insights and logical steps for positive change.

Services Offered

Earn a Bike: The Earn-a-Bike program uses the bike as a tool to develop leadership and teamwork skills as well as bike mechanic capabilities in youth ages 11-17. Each week participants come to program where they receive a healthy snack, play games and discuss the daily lessons in both character (community, leadership, self-esteem) and bike mechanics (fixing a tire, gear adjustments, chains, brakes etc). They have the opportunity to use tools and disassemble and reassemble bikes every week.

Bike Trips: Two Wheel View invites youth and adults, ages 14 and older to discover one of our amazing destinations - experiencing outdoor adventure, exploring new cultures, learning as you go.

As a part of the Two Wheel View bike trip experience, you will: Volunteer in local and host community projects. Prepare for the adventure through Two Wheel View’s unique pre-trip orientation sessions that includes bike mechanics, team building, and fun. Discover new cultures and natural landscapes. Stay connected after the trip through social media and events hosted by Two Wheel View. TWV takes care of all the pre-trip preparation, travel arrangements, supervision, safety, accommodations, bicycles and meals. Our trip leaders are experienced in student travel, youth development and adventure-based education.
