User talk:Eugene/Repair Articles On The Wiki

From Bike Collectives Wiki

eug's feelings

I've noticed that there are a lot of half-written and defunct articles on bike repair on this wiki.
I don't think the internet really needs another resource on how to fix a bike, and really
doesn't need a watered down version of that, either.
I think some of the articles aim to be used at specific coops and rad orgs. If that's the case,
see how I've added a slash to the end of my user talk page to create a specific talk page
that is mine related to repair articles.
Example:
Neighborhood_Bike_Works/Hubs could read about the procedure for NBW to deal with
Hubs from stripping the bike and wheel of the useful parts to storage to sales / earns.
Alternatively, we could agree as a wiki community to delete all of these defunct articles
and create articles that detail and explain how repair is different in various ways from
standard IE: why you would totally add "Vee" brake pads to cheap calipers to increase
stopping power on the cheap.

your feelings here

I say go for it!

I think it would be a good thing to have a wiki that limits its scope on these things to as they relate to community bike shops (with possibly links to outside resources if someone wants to compile one)

If it bothers someone, they can revert the changes. But I don't think you're going to get much feedback either way, and as long as there aren't a bunch of dead links and it makes the wiki tidier, it probably won't hurt much. (If you want more opinions, maybe try tagging the regular users?) --Angel York (talk) 12:33, 16 February 2017 (PST)

omg! Angel! Hiii! I think if I did anything, I'd probably make a template to stamp at the tops of all of the articles about "community standards" regarding the whole process of making some kinds of repair articles. I'd also move the existing articles that are specific to only the local community org that posted it all and kind of do the SomeCommunityOrg/Hubs thing as listed above? I'm also hearing from you that doing a bit more of a slash and burn is a good idea perhaps ? --Eugene (talk) 22:30, 17 February 2017 (PST)
Angel ! Again, hi ! ... I really am excited about this initiative now. I'm going to do a tiny amount more authoritarian swing, I think. After the love-our-wiki contest. --Eugene (talk) 18:47, 19 February 2017 (PST)
If it's anything you think someone might potentially Really Care about, you could move it to a 'land of misfit articles' or something. I figure the bike collectives wiki is like bike collectives (in my experience) generally. Someone gets inspired to clean something up/organize something/improve a system and they do it, and that's pretty much the only way things get done. Also, btw, congrats! I think you won the wiki contest again anyway! How do I get you a chocolate bar? --Angel York (talk) 07:12, 1 March 2017 (PST)
