Discovery Routes Trails Organization

From Bike Collectives Wiki

As of 2018-07-29, taken from their Facebook Page:

For the last three years (so, since/started in 2015) ReCycle Bikes program has been run where bikes donated from the community are fixed up and given away. Bikes are stored/fixed at the ski lodge at Laurentian Ski Hill during the summer off-season.

and also website:

A volunteer-driven bicycle donation program:

New in 2018, we are excited to work with the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority who is providing space for our volunteer bike mechanics to tune up bicycles that have been donated as part of the program. The new partnership will allow for an expansion of the program to include collection of bicycles throughout the Spring and Summer as well as the ability to collect and refurbish adult bikes.

North Bay YMCA is supporting the program once again this year as the drop-off location for donated bicycles at 186 Chippewa Street West. In exchange for each bicycle donated that is in good repair, a $25 charitable tax receipt will be issued by Discovery Routes Trails Organization. Unfortunately, donation receipts cannot be issued for bikes that are beyond repair. Although our volunteer bike mechanics are very skilled, bikes that are extremely rusty or broken are too costly and time consuming to repair and cannot be salvaged. Please contact us if you have any questions about a bicycle’s and condition and if it would be considered fit for donation.

Once bikes are tuned-up, Discovery Routes works with a variety of local agencies to identify people in the community that need a bicycle. We are always looking for volunteers to help tune-up donated bikes. Contact Discovery Routes if you are interested. Since 2015, Discovery Routes and community volunteers have refurbished over 60 children’s bicycles. Our aim for 2018 will be to double that amount!

Discovery Routes Trails Organization was established in 1992. As a not-for-profit organization as well as a registered charity, Discovery Routes’ main responsibilities are to create, maintain, and promote multi-seasonal trails in northeastern Ontario. Discovery Routes is a volunteer partnership of community leaders, economic developers, environmental stewards and locally-based action groups. We promote the use of trails in support of better health, tourism, strong communities, and environmental appreciation and protection. One of Discovery Routes’ main goals is to provide the coordination for community based partnerships to actively promote the use of local trails for recreation, and to encourage healthy lifestyles. Discovery Routes’ region includes the area from Mattawa to West Nipissing, and from Magnetawan north to Marten River. Check out a Google Map of our trails
