Vélocity Bicycle Cooperative is a community bicycle cooperative and educational space serving the Alexandria and Arlington, Virginia area. A volunteer and donation-powered 501(c)(3) nonprofit incorporated as ViaVélo Ltd, Vélocity promotes bicycle community, self-sufficiency, and equity through repair, refurbishment, youth programming, and scholarship bikes.

Our mission is to build a more equitable, sustainable, and healthy community through cycling for all. We provide a nonprofit, volunteer-run, educational do-it-yourself workshop offering training, rides, and events to empower all levels of cyclists in building, maintaining, and embracing the fun of bicycles.

Services Offered

Vélocity offers a full range of community bicycle services across three locations — our Del Ray shop, Arlington shop, and warehouse facility:

Open shop hours for DIY bike repair and maintenance, supported by experienced Véloteer volunteers
Full-service same-day bicycle repair
Used bicycle refurbishment and resale
Scholarship bike program — providing refurbished bicycles to families who could not otherwise afford them
Youth programming and in-school outreach
Bicycle maintenance workshops and courses
Community bike rides and social events
Women and trans programs
Community warehouse sales and swap meets

History

Vélocity Bicycle Cooperative was founded on May 1, 2010, originally located in Old Town, Alexandria, Virginia. In April 2012, the co-op relocated to its current primary location at 2111 Mt. Vernon Ave. in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria.

Over the following years, Vélocity has expanded to include a warehouse facility supporting refurbishment operations and community sales events, and a second shop in the Lyon Park neighborhood of Arlington, Virginia.

In 2026, Vélocity entered its sixteenth year of continuous community service, with active programs spanning repair, refurbishment, youth education, scholarship bikes, and community outreach across the Alexandria-Arlington region.
